Metta meditation is usually practices among Buddhist though today you can find a large number of other communities too practicing this kind of meditation. Metta is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘ maitri’ meaning friendship, love, bonding, kindness for others or generally a concern and interest in the well being of others. Metta meditation enhances all these feeling in you and can help you bond with other better with no negativity in a relationship. Metta meditation firstly promotes love for the self and then that love is transcended to the love and feeling for others starting with the own loved ones to the society at large. Metta meditation is not a very long process of meditation; in fact, it can be practiced for a short period of time too. You can practice meditation for about 10-15 min in a day and either increase or decrease it to your convenience. This meditation is similar to ascension meditation which also lays stress on improving the quality of your life by sharing and giving. Another form of meditation among the Buddhists is the Emptiness meditation which also stresses on the idea of our being and our mental enlightenment. Like the Metta meditation, the emptiness meditation also highlights the awareness of us being a social being.
